Lake Erie and Kirtland with the Folks

Waaaay back in November, as mentioned previously, we had a visit from Poppy and Bamma. Along with a visit to Smuckers and Amish country, we saw a great lake and ran over to Kirtland to see some Church Historical sites. Bueno.

We stopped at a restaurant in Wilmot called The Amish Door.
They make Apple Pie, so we had to try a bite...

Dad needed to run some of that food off, I guess.

And he was so blazing fast, he was the first to spy the water.

There's alot of it. Seems like you're looking at the ocean because as far as you can see...it's just water

Nice day, too.

Mom said she wanted to find a rock shaped like a heart.

Brenden wanted to return them all into their native waters.

I found one for her. There may have been a motivating prize.

Path to the left. But this guy prefers to take the road less trodden.

And she prefers to be holding, playing and enjoying any grandbaby.

We lost Brenden. Lucky for us, Kyleigh has such keen eyes.

Mom and Dad should have arrived a few weeks earlier and they would have seen these bare branches covered in an impressive array of color.

This place is near Mentor, Ohio. I guess there are beaches right off Cleveland, but we travel a few more miles to the NE to find a less populated area to play and have all to ourselves.

Kirtland is only 3.35 miles from Mentor so we ran over to visit some of the old houses, stores and inns that the early Saints used to occupy. Kyleigh about to have sit where maybe the old men used to gather for a game while the women folk shopped and gathered the daily gossip.

Prunes and screw boxes make for great seating. Ask Kyleigh. She had no interest in what the sister missionaries were telling us about the original use of this room (Newel Whitney used this room as the Bishops Storehouse. Click here to learn more about the use and purpose of Bishops Storehouses).

Brenden manning the Storehouse.

There was something significant about this room. Maybe the place where Elizabeth Whitney and Emma Smith cooked the food for those who met for the School of the Prophets that was held upstairs?

Chair for Kyleigh.

This is where Brenden was asked what he thought about this room, or something like that, and Mom recorded an excellent answer he gave. Something about guys coming up the stairs and others hiding in the closet to escape... (At this point the sole focus was vying for a spot on Poppy's lap).

The Man Cave

Time for a siesta.

Mom is usually smiling when she has grandbabies to keep her company. And the grandbabies sure know that they are loved.

Learning about the Ashery. Whitney was a smart man to start this up. A very profitable endeavor.

I love it when I catch the kids being affectionate. They were holding hands all across this bridge...

...until they found something else more interesting to go check out.

Feelin' the love.

Whitney's home.

Kyleigh was collecting the leaves that were being blown away in the wind.

3 Generations.

Our coat hanger.

Woah, cool. On the way to lunch, we found a place hosting a model train show. (Couldn't hold a candle to the one at Thanksgiving Point).

This was about the only one that had a train moving. So, we kept on moving to our next stop....

Wendys! Traveling makes one hungry. Wendy's makes lunch, so we stopped. Who knew the Amish also frequented such fine dining?

On Sunday, after some Baked Sandwiches, we took a stroll around the block.

Kids really like going on a walk in the fall. Lots of local entertainment.

A couple of guys, walking off into the sunset.
Kids always ask when Poppy and Bamma are coming over once they leave....for about a week straight.
Fun visit.
