Our ward playgroup went down to Amish country to visit Rolling Ridge
Cool place. Petting area, birds, peacocks, monkeys and turtles to see. And a wagon ride through the acreage to feed a couple zebra-mule combination, deer, caribou, water buffalo, and long horns to name a few. Kyleigh enjoyed every bit of this. Brenden was more of a casual observer/occasional participant. When we first arrived, we checked out the petting area and the caged birds and animals. Lots to see.
Then our entire ward squeezed into a wagon to roam the ranch.
Brenden and his buddy G that spends a couple days a week with us. They have grown pretty close.
This pig is not pregnant. It's just been fed waaaaay too well.
A few llamas or alpacas come to grab some grub. These animals see the wagon coming and they start trotting over. Others just sit by in the shade being lazy until they're ready for some feed. They know how this works. And they're not worry about starving the way the kids all hand out their bucket contents. The more aggressive animals were waiting for us right at the gate when we first go through. Especially this ostrich that I didn't get a picture of. He ate so much and you could see the food go down his long neck in a giant bulge.
We were warned that regardless of how tight you hold your bucket, some of the animals will rip it out of your hands and take all you have.
Friendly Eland.
Hand this girl some feed and throw her into the midst of some extra large beasts and she's all smiles.
Brenden really wanted these baby deer to come eat from his hand. They eventually did.
My sister Court would have really loved to join us for this part. We can definitely go back next time she comes to visit. Wouldn't want her to miss out on feeding the cows ;)
Their antlers were so soft.
By this time, Brenden was an old feeding pro. Dishing out some tasty pellets for the furry guys.
Kyleigh always preferred to use her hands rather than the more sterile approach of using the bucket. More one-on-one with the animals, ya know.
Soooo happy that she finally got this guy to eat out of her hand.
"It's not a tumor!"
Couple of Long Horns. Had to watch out for when these guys swung their heads. Hold onto the babies.
In Brenden's case, he just grabbed onto the horn so he would know when to duck.
On the way out of the Ranch/Farm/Zoo, our driver let all the kids take turns at the reins. Kyleigh was the last one right before we exited the gate.
After this, we all washed up and had our picnic lunch. The two boys wanted to go play at the playground area, but us girls were a little beat, so we jumped in the car for the long drive home. And we happened to pass through a pretty cool town on the drive home.
