Sledding

When prepping to go outside for a few minutes, there's a few things to get together.

One little girl is ready to hit the slopes.
Family sledding is one of the highlights of this long winter season. For sure.

Especially when Dad does all the hard work and one gets a free ride all over the 'mountain'.

That first run looked pretty safe, so I grabbed a sled and took little Mae down for a run.

Hmm, not sure if it's the layers that make it hard for her to show emotion, but she's usually like this the entire time. Stoic.

Kyleigh, want to go down the hill again?
She did. And all by herself. First solo run. She went down the little hill on the opposite side of the bigger hill. And did fantastic.

Good size hill. Just minutes from our house. Not alot of crowds.

On our way to the car, Kyleigh and I lost Trent and Brenden. Couldn't find them anywhere.

Scared the living daylights out of Kyleigh. No, probably not. She's waaaaay too smart for those boys.
See-she got another free ride.

Back home, Trent and the kids hadn't had enough of the snow, so they built a snowman out in the backyard. I went out long enough to take a picture of some wildlife prowling around our grounds and then hurried my cold self into the kitchen to put a pot of hot milk on the stove for our cocoa caliente.
Kyleigh, how 'bout some HOT CHOCOLATE???!!

Brenden, how's the snowman coming?

Not too shabby. Meet George.
George didn't last too long. Days at best.

Couple weeks later, we went sledding with our neighbors. We lucked out because they built a jump for us to all go off. And it was so cold that day. The wind chill brought the temp to 0. Combine that with snow flying into your face when you are in the front and only 2 years old so your head is the perfect level to get a facewash...and it's not hard to understand why Kyleigh only went one time before sitting the rest out and taking advantage of the large drum of burning wood that the city had just ignited when we got there.

Brenden just jumped on a sled and took off.
The rest of the dudes soon followed.

A neighbor boy after his first run. His beanie isn't intentionally white.

Kyleigh trusts her brother with her life. He did well.
Sooooooo nice of the city to come over and drop a load of wood in that drum, fill it to the brim and ignite it for us. Kyleigh was able to thaw out.

When you go sledding with a bunch of neighbor boys...the sport is brought to a whole new level. Fun.

B, what are those boys doing down there??

Building the jump.

Kyleigh, what could those boys be needing a jump for?

A little bit of this...

Alot of this....

Some of this...  (B was starting to stand)

Woah, trick moves.

trying to land sans sled? ouch.

Couple face-washes later...

And some more air...

And we ended with some tired, content kids. This time our neighbors provided the hot chocolate afterward and we brought the donuts. I could probably go out sledding again in snow storm 0 degree weather if I get to stand next to a fire to warm up between runs and sip some pipping hot chocolate afterward. But, after many months of this weather, there's a reason why they call it Spring fever in March!!!
