After stuffing our faces with these cinnamon rolls, we took the kids on a little hike inbetween Gen Conference sessions to be able to sit still again for the next 2 hours.
Head north on Riverview Rd from Akron. You will go under the 80 and 271 and right before you hit the Boston Mills ski resort (Resort?? They call this a ski resort? Trent and I have a hard time counting this as a bonafide ski resort when it looks like the bunny hills on any of the ski resorts where we come from. Don't blame us; blame the incredible West coast mountain ranges that spoiled us.) Well, right before the Ski Resort, you turn left on Boston Mills rd. Go 4000 ft and you will have a parking lot for 3 cars on the right hand side of the road, or a larger one for about 10 cars on the left hand side of the road (nothing is well marked to guide you to this trail). If you park on the left, cross the road and find the trail head at the top of the little hill. The end of this trail will take you to the first water fall. It's a large, well groomed trail and very short. But if you walk past the sign that says "End of Trail" you will see a smaller trail that will lead you to the second waterfall. This is where we took the kids this day:
When we ask her what she would like to do any given day, she usually requests some kind of hike. The girl absolutely loves being outdoors and walking around open spaces.
The trail is marked enough to see it. Just not as wide and well groomed as the first bit.
And you have to go down the hill to cross the stream.
The cement thing that Brenden is holding onto looks like it might have been an old bridge or lock from back in the day. There are pieces of broken cement in the stream and along the bank.
Easy crossing for adults...
...but kids need a little lift. Good thing we brought ours along.
Once you cross the stream, you just climb back up the hill and find the top of the second waterfall.
The kids wanted to go to the bottom.
So we headed down. Might have been that we had just listened to a Prophet and Apostles speaking to us in General Conference because when Kyleigh reached up for my hand, it reminded me of something. A couple times during the hike, she knew I was right next to her and just reached up her hand automatically without looking up...fully confident I would grab that little hand and help her navigate the rocks or steep hill slopes. It was one of those cool moments where I thought of a very conscientious Heavenly Father walking alongside us and whenever we cross one of the rocky points of life or a steep hill and need help, we automatically throw up our hand, fully confident that He's there and will grab hold. (Hopefully) trusting and unhesitating just like a little child.
After throwing in a few rocks, we had to turn back to catch the next 2 hours of Conference.
On the way back, we passed the 1st waterfall again.
And lost the kids for a bit...but managed to find them.
Hikes are fun.
