Trent and I have never been to Heritage Park so we decided to check it out for Pioneer day. Someone was having a big extended family reunion (they were wearing name tags to help recognize and get to know each other.)

Pigs found some shade....it was very hot that day. I heard the reason they roll around in the mud is because it helps cool off their skin.

Sweet Styles.
A couple of grandparents manning the game table. If I had to wear a costume and sit out in the sun for 8 hours, I would pick the game table too!! I think they were playing the game together when we passed them.

Had no idea hats were so expensive. Sure hope Sarah Jessica Parker isn't bringing that back. I rather prefer not putting acorns and feathers and fruit on my head.
Carpenters shop. There was a coffin they were making and a little kid asked what it was, the dad said, "It's a coffin, for kids".The kid asked, "But why do they need a coffin for kids, Dad?"
Dad, "Well, because sometimes little kids die too."
The kid went silent after that. Trying to process what that all means. So hard to explain such a difficult thing to a child that sometimes adults don't even understand.

Guys who made a difference in their lives.
This guy was actually a pharmacist by profession and came here during weekends to volunteer. He knew quite a bit and also showed us how they would grind certain grains and things to powder and then measure it with a very precise contraption.

They did a special handcart walk down main street. Some people were really getting into it and hootin' and hollerin' as they went down Main.

When they first got to the valley, some of the families lived together until they were able to build their own houses. This is the room where they kept all the babies and younger children. I would hate to be the one designated to sleep with the 3 or 4 babies that night.
Really old-school swinging chair. Maddy had one that you had to crank every so often, now you just push a button and don't have to sit next to the chair to keep it rockin.
Nice looking kitchen. Best one we saw. If possible, families would build their wood fire burning oven (like the one to the right of the stove) outside so that in the summer they would cook there and not heat up the entire house. A "summer kitchen" and a "winter kitchen". In Chile, most families did not have central air or heat, so in the winter, all activities were held in the kitchen since the fire was going at least morning and night. Crowded but warm.
Bathroom. How'd you like a dead cow staring at you as you exit the tub?
Very beautiful couch. Would love something like this in the front room of my home.
