Brenden's Birthday Bash

Some of the comments may be repeated to those who have already seen the pictures on Dad's smugmug site.
Brenden turned 2 whole years old last Monday and so we had a little family celebration. We were having horrible weather right before the party but luckily it warmed up (all the way to about 50, maybe 60 degrees, during the day and close to 30 at night. The Vegas people brought vests and jackets while the Utah people finally broke out our shorts and flip flops.
Not too sure if Brenden understood that this get together was to celebrate the day 2 years ago that he joined our family, but he was definitely excited to have Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle Jared and Aunt Courty and Maddy to play with and get attention from. B and I got to pick up Gma and Grandpa from the airport on Friday and went straight to Market Street Grill (which I had no idea was not in Vegas or Phoenix...someone needs to fix that!) so Gma could get her fix of their clam chowder while Grandpa fed Brenden some butter with a little bit of bread to go with it:) No wonder B wants to sit by Grandpa when we dine.
The two 'boys' got bored while waiting for our food, so they played a little game of peek-a-boo with the kids menu that Grandpa poked holes in.

The crew at Tree and Craig's house. Tree is Trent's sister and an amazing host. She and her kids put up all the decorations and handmade a few banners for Brenden. The picture of a plane behind Court and Ash was drawn by Trent's other sister Traci and her husband, Neil. We sure are lucky to have such considerate people.

Courtney, newest member of the family-her husband Jared, Jared's friend Aaron.
Aaron, Jack (who thoroughly enjoys being around boys since he is surrounded by girls most of the time), and John

Craig and his youngest, Cedar.

Aspen and Maddy

These people need no introduction.

B: "You guys are really going to let me play with fire?! Awesome!"

After several attempts to show B how to blow out the candle, he finally got it!

Very excited to have received underwear for his birthday...

...or not...and trying to quickly get rid of them so mom doesn't make him wear 'panties'.

B: "Yes! A book! Just what I always wanted!"

One of the things Chief-many-meanies taught me-torture your loved ones...I mean, have a little playful fun with them. Hold Brenden's hands so he can't get away while attacking him with the ball that he is terrified of. The tradition lives on.

Cute, accurate shirt that Aunty Maddy got for B.

B: "And a tire! Man, these guys really need some pointers on what to buy a 2 year old for their birthday."
Me: "Maybe you should start talking and then we could all know what you want." :)
(The tire actually belongs to the stroller Grandpa got for Brenden. Such a nice gift for the whole family to enjoy. Thanks B!)

Hey John, wanna go golfing....right now??....

When you live on the side of a mountain and there are no direct neighbors below you, the conditions are too ripe to not take advantage of your own private driving range in your backyard. Craig is a big golfer and so some of the boys drove a few balls. This happens to be John at the 'tee'.

This is Trent tearing a hole in Craigs green. This is just for fun, Trent, no need to be getting serious now and ripping holes. I've been golfing with Trent one time in Vegas for his birthday, and the groundspeople really earn their wages when they 'pick up' after Trent does a round of golf. Good thing grass grows back...not too sure if 'tape' will fix Craig's green.

Grandpa's lips are pursed making the car vroom sound. Pretty bumpy track for the car, but still plenty fun.

Smile! ...at least John and Steph were listening :)

Really was a beautiful day outside.

Jared taking a swing.

Maddy kept running down to the chicken coup and bunny hut to retrieve the balls. Out of the several balls that were shot at/near the chickens, luckily none of them were hurt. Peta was not called to the scene.

B: "Hey Dad, can I have a turn?"

Patiently waiting his turn with golf club and ball in hand.

Checking out the competition. Getting a few tips.

Man, that was a good shot. Ok, I think I'm ready now....

This sport is harder than it looks.
Maybe sideways works better...?
Oh forget it! Golf clubs are useless. I'll just chuck the ball.

Grandpa: "Smart boy. Can't get the ball to move one way, so he didn't give up and tried a different approach."
Trent: "Oh B, you have so little patience"

Walking out the backdoor, across the grass and through a little forest lined path, you arrive at the BBQ pit for some good smore-cookin....or for the younger kids a chance to burn some mallows.

Several really cute couples.
Grandpa and Gma

Uncle John and Uncle Steph :)

Court and Jared (who was sick the day before and was tentatively coming, depending on if he felt better. He still wasn't 100%, but we're sure glad he made it!)
Does this count as a couple??

How about this one? No wonder Court can't leave Jared's side....he immediately snuggles up to another dude.

My Dad was right when he quoted a guy who said a man doesn't live long enough to sit by enough campfires.

Brenden in one of his absolute favorite positions. Anywhere close to his Grandpa. His face shows it all. (Brenden told me to pass along this information to Grandpa:) http://www.utahmountainbiking.com/trails/

Jack and Cedar .... doing what kids do best.

John probably gave Brenden another marshmellow....and I wouldn't be surprised if there were a couple more stuffed in his pockets. During Gen Conf weekend, John bought B 2 doughnuts and B was running all over the place and jumping off all furniture. Must keep eyes on John when those two are together. :)

Must be hard to strain your neck so much every time you want to speak with someone. B needed some help on assembling the truck he got from his Aunt Trina.

Grandpa was there to save the day. (This is one of my new favorite pictures.)

The next day, after church, Brenden walked in the door and went straight to "his" chair. He seemed to most enjoy it in any way but the 'conventional' sitting position.

Thanks Grandpa, Gma, Aunties and Uncle Jared for coming up!! Sure made for a fun weekend. We really appreciate the time you took to come up and Tree & co. for being such gracious hosts. Absolutely nothing like being around family.
