This year I didn't give any input on what the kids should be for Halloween. They chose their costumes themselves. They had fun thinking about what they wanted to dress up as and then getting all fixed up.
B's school puts on a parade with the High School band kids coming over to lead them. After marching around the school yard, the band put on a show for the Elementary kids on the blacktop. B even got in on the dancing a bit.
He was a "Knight in Shining Armor"
Kyleigh was over the top excited to run over to her brother when the parade was over and grab a hold of the Knight's hand. He escorted her into the classroom for the big party.
They played a couple games. This is one where B caught the yarn that eventually turns into a giant spider web as held by all the kids.
The Knight was pulling double duty in his protection detail....
Later that day Kyleigh got all dolled up for a Princess party for a neighbor girl's birthday party.
She got to wear a tiara, necklace, gloves, ring, bracelet, purse and makeup!! She has not minded a bit that there have been multiple opportunities to dress up: Trent's law school Halloween party on Thursday, Bday party on Friday, actual trick or treating around the neighborhood on Saturday, Preschool party and Ballet class dress up day and Church party on Wednesday. This girl could get used to accessorizing at this rate!
In Ohio, each county has its own day and specified time to Trick or Treat the neighborhood. It's not always the same day and rarely actually falls on Halloween. Our night was Saturday from 5-7pm. Some people make it like a tail gate experience by sitting in lawn chairs in the driveway with their pot of candy to hand out to the kids as they walk by. Just a bit different than what I was used to growing up.
It was raining on Saturday and in the 40s, so the kids had fleece sweaters underneath their costumes, beanies and boots. Their little hands were icicles when they got home, so I should have also equipped them with gloves. I just wasn't sure if they were going to be able grab sufficient booty with the extra impairment. Candy before comfort here, people.
TRICK OR TREAT!!!
