Mt Charelston

Forgot this grouping of photos. While in Vegas over the summer, we celebrated the 4th of July. I can't remember if we made homemade corn dogs and swam at Grandparent's pool before driving up to Mount Charleston for a fried chicken picnic or vice versa. Either way...there was some great All-American dining going on that day...and I loved it.
Ash and Mom dressing their dogs and picking out the fixin's.

Steph and her family of 4 had made the trek north from Phoenix by that time and were able to help make the corn meal mix for the corn dogs. Seriously-you ain't American if you don't like a well fried dog.

This kid could use 3 or 4 of them dogs....

Girls table. And everybody doing well...

Once we drove up to the mountains, the kids took off to explore. It must be a girl thing to walk through the woods with your hands clenched together.

Food coma? Nap time? A little tired baby girl.

Their motto: "Leave no stone unturned"

Also very 4th of July-American appropriate: family picnic of fried chicken. (Looks like the camera captured a couple people mid-bite.)

John is intentional in his facials. This is almost an exact replicate of another person (who shall remain unnamed) who always smiles the exact way in every picture-hyper grin and peace signs. (And no, the person in discussion is not Ashleigh...though it may be a friend of hers....maybe).

Great outdoors make great dining digs.

Luckily we had Uncle John to walk around the woods and follow wandering children.

Dessert!! Famous Amos cookies.

Little B loves his aunty Ash. He was lucky to get to spend some time with her while we still resided in Utah and she was going to school.

And it's hard not to love this little Poly baby. Such a cuddler and a looker.

Thankfully I got some time with my little niece and she warmed up to me.

We toured the mountain a bit and then went to jump on the ski lift. This was fun. We have a lot of small children and there are no bars to keep anyone from falling, but we all made it up and down the mountain in one piece....and saw a couple pieces of clothing on the trees along the way. As well as some Frisbee golf units and the smoke from the fire that was burning on the other side of the mountain.

Once you reached the top of the lift, it was a short walk over to their water reservoir that they use to make snow...but that day it was being used by the helicopters to fill their 700 gallon buckets to stump the fire on the other side.

Impressive to watch these helicopter pilots fly in quickly, hover while their buckets fill and then account for the extra weight as they try to make the same turns but are being swung around a bit.

We got a normal picture...

One with Maddy cooperating....

And one with Steph and I being the mature ones:)

Cute couple that was in charge of the crowd control. (They have officially become empty-nesters...and learning to adjust to the new lifestyle after having children in their home for 32 years straight....or maybe there's no adjustment period needed...something they've been anticipating for years) :)

Credit to John who even coordinated his shoes to the appropriate holiday colors.

Beautiful country. Mountains, blue skies, and green. (Not sure how much of this mountain is still green after the fire took out about 2,000 acres).

Right when we got off the lift, we turn around and this is the smoke billowing from the fire.

Within hours after we got off the mountain, they closed it down and later began evacuating people from their homes because the fire was not contained. Wonderful, beautiful day for us...scary, hard day at work fighting a massive fire for many others.
